PISA, ITALY
MONTE CARLO, MONACO
THE PALACE
THE MALL
THE RENOWNED MONTE CARLO CASINO
Citizens of Monaco are forbidden from entering the casino's game rooms, and only foreign visitors with passports are permitted in the casino.  No, we didn't go in.
There were many yachts docked in the harbor, but this one was the most impressive.  It had it's own helicopter!
Dick with our yacht in the background.
ST. TROPEZ, FRANCE
Our least favorite place - too crowded.  Many yachts docked in the harbor and artists selling their paintings along the curb was all we saw.
BARCELONA, SPAIN
We were told that Christopher Columbus walked up these palace steps to tell King Ferdinand about his discovery of the new world.
IT WAS FOGGY AS WE CRUISED PAST THE ROCK OF GIBRALTER ON OUR WAY TO LISBON.
LISBON, PORTUGAL
In fourteen hundred and ninety-two, Columbus sailed the ocean blue.
He took three ships with him, too.
And called aboard his faithful crew.
Mighty, strong and brave was he
As he sailed across the open sea.
Some people still thought the world was flat!
Can you even imagine that?
The older buildings in Lisbon are covered with ceramic tiles.  They found that to be the easiest way to protect them from the sea air.  I wish I had been able to get some pictures of them, but we saw them while passing in the bus.
A Roman aquaduct still standing after the 1755 earthquake.
City view from Parc de Montjuic, one of the highest points and site of the 1992 Summer Olympics.
Pronounced: Bar-thuh-lone-ah (almost as if with a lisp).  Barcelonans speak Catalan, a special tongue found only in this eastern region of Spain:  Catalonia.
Cathedral de Santa Eulalia
Built with a Catalan Gothic interior.
The Sagrada Familia Church, architect Antoni Gaudi's most ambitious work.  It was begun in 1882, and although he died in 1924, construction is still ongoing.
There was an earthquake in Lisbon in 1755 which, after fire and three tsunamis, left the city in ruins.  It changed the course of the Tagus River and killed approximately 40,000 people.

Cabo de Roca, Portugal
Our tour bus took us to the most westerly point on the European mainland, and we have certificates to prove it.
The area around there looked a lot like home!
UNTIL...
You looked towards the ocean.
WE'RE STILL CRUISING -
