| HOW THE BEARS OF GRANTS PASS CAME TO BE BORN A Vice-President of Evergreen Bank decided that the bank could enhance its logo (the bear) decorate the city of Grants Pass and support the arts while raising money for local worthy causes. He presented his plan: business who participated would purchase a fiber-glass BEAR for $1,000. Then the business would commission an artist to paint whatever they wanted on the bear "skin." The BEARS were then bolted down in their spots in front of businesses, and are "on parade" until September 27th when each bear will be auctioned off and the proceeds will benefit 21 area non-profit organizations. So the BEARS that you have seen so far, are among those on the Streets of Grants Pass. And there are a few more yet to be seen. While there were 21 Bears located in various parts of the city, I photographed only about a third of them. |

| Yankee Pot Roast serves one of the best meals I have eaten in all my life. It is located in an old Victorian home built by Dr. William and Wanda Flanagan. Flanagan was the first doctor in Grants Pass, and after his death, his wife continued to live in and maintain the home. It is one of only two brick homes left that were standing in 1910 and was placed on the National Historical Register in 1985. All the servers are dressed in Victorian gowns. The dining room is elegantly lighted and the food is just exquisite, one of its best features being the incredible, large biscuits that are FRESHLY baked for each customer and delivered still oven-hot to the table. It alone is a reason to visit Grants Pass. |
